Wil Kemp is an incompetent electrician who, not only is unable to carry out simple work, he unapologetically breaks existing electrics, then is unresponsive in remediating those breakages. He is also disrespectful and unprofessional. He is a rather unpleasant human being.
My recent experience with him began in March where I asked him to replace some 12V light fittings (using transformers) with 240V GU10 fittings (no transformers). He had difficulty replacing one of them, but this is where the problems began. He spent a long time telling me it's not possible, and repeating himself over and over again. Knowing that there is always a solution, I asked for the solution, and there were long moments of silence of him staring at a hole in the ceiling before repeating that it's not possible. He seemed to want advice from me, but I told him I'm not an electrician. It felt odd that I had to explain this to him.
In the end, I had to come up with solution to use a phone camera to see through the hole. He then said he still cannot do it because there is insultation foam in the way. I suggested to use a tool to move it out of the way. Again, long moments of silence. So, I suggested to use an L-shaped hook or similar tool. I even offered to buy one for him, or to see if there is a tool he could use in my own collection of tools. He opted for the latter, but then he spent several minutes rummaging through all my tools smashing them around carelessly in my storehouse. He seemed to have no respect for my things.
He then said he would return with a camera probe tool. He came another day, and used the camera to confirm what we had already seen with my phone camera. He then offered no solution, and continually tugged at the electrical fitting violently to demonstrate it was stuck. I told him not to tug as it doesn't seem to be helping, or it would break. Lo and behold, he didn't listen, kept tugging for no obvious reason, and broke it. He tried to hide that he'd broken it initially until I pointed it out.
I kept messaging him after this to come and fix my broken light, but he ignored all messages until I threatened to escalate to the authorities. Only then did he come to fix the light. However, he didn't come with any tools to move the insulation foam so that he could carry out the work. But he did feel that it was OK to walk around my house and use items at his own discretion. For example, when I answered the door, he just barged past me, walked into my kitchen, took a stool, and went upstairs to fix the light. It was like he felt he owned my house. Completely disrespectful, and impolite person.
I then asked him when he would come to finish the work, and he told me 4 months from now, despite attending my house 3 times in the space of one month. I asked him to be honest and just tell me if he is not interested in doing the work, and he finally told me this. So not only is he dishonest when he breaks your things, he also doesn't care about wasting people's time.
Needless to say, I won't be using his services anymore, and neither will any of the neighbours in my street or the adjacent two streets.
